BOSTON, June 3, 2024 – Affiliated Monitors, Inc. (AMI) today announced that Steven P. Solow has joined the company as Managing Director, Global Compliance and Corporate Culture. Solow, who is based in Washington, D.C., previously practiced law at Baker Botts, where he focused on white collar, corporate compliance, environmental and workplace safety matters, and monitorships. His career prior to entering private practice in 2002 included serving as Chief of the Environmental Crimes Section at the U.S. Department of Justice and as a prosecutor with the New York State Organized Crime Task Force.

“The team at Affiliated Monitors is thrilled to have Steve joining us. The great work he has undertaken over his years of practice have given him a balanced understanding of both the needs of government agencies and of clients, and will enhance the remedial approach we offer in every monitorship we undertake. Steve will help us expand our independent monitoring and compliance risk assessment services not only in the D.C. area, but across the country and globally,” said Vincent L. DiCianni, Esq., President and Founder of AMI.

In government and private practice, Solow has accrued extensive experience in the use, design, and conduct of effective monitorships. He brings to his work at AMI a pragmatic mission-focused approach to finding pathways to enhanced organizational effectiveness. He is known for identifying opportunities for innovation, and the integration of organization functions with regulatory compliance. In 2017, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida selected Solow as the Court Appointed Monitor for a five-year term overseeing compliance efforts by the world’s largest cruise company, a global entity with over 120,000 employees.

“To be a part of the Affiliated Monitors team is exciting,” said Solow. “I have recommended and worked with AMI for many years and have tremendous respect for Vin and the company broadly. I have found that AMI’s approach is in sync with my own: to seek to address and overcome obstacles facing organizations so that they find themselves better able to carry out their work in every respect.”

During his time in private practice, Solow was a national practice chair and executive committee member. Chambers USA has recognized him with a Band 1 ranking for Environment. As Chief of the Environmental Crimes Section at the Department of Justice, he oversaw the work of thirty federal prosecutors and the prosecution of environmental criminal cases nationwide. He was selected for the Senior Executive Service of the federal government and was awarded a Public Service Commendation from the United States Coast Guard for his work related to the investigation and prosecution of ocean pollution crimes. Solow began his career as a prosecutor with the New York State Organized Crime Task Force, where he investigated and prosecuted complex cases involving racketeering, corruption, narcotics, and illegal dumping, as well as appellate work. After law school he served as a law clerk to the Honorable Harold L. Murphy of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia.

Along with practicing law, Solow has been an adjunct professor since 1997 at the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University. He founded and co-directs the Washington D.C. Environmental Externship program for the school’s environmental law program. He is a Senior Fellow of the Zicklin Center for the Study of Business Ethics at Wharton and has participated in the NYU Law School of Law Program on Corporate Compliance and Enforcement, including as a presenter and moderator for compliance programs and the PCCE’s Directors’ Academy.

Solow’s academic engagement has also encompassed full-time teaching roles. Prior to moving to D.C. to join the DOJ, he spent two years at Pace as a law professor and Co-Director of the Environmental Litigation Clinic, where he supervised student litigants bringing a wide range of citizen suit litigation. After leaving the DOJ, he was a visiting professor for two years at the University of Maryland School of Law and a Co-Director of the Environmental Law Clinic where, among other efforts, his supervised students litigated on behalf of the City of Baltimore’s lead paint enforcement efforts.

Solow holds a J.D. from New York University School of Law, and a BA from Brown University.
