Former DOJ Section Chief and Big Law Partner Opens Solow, PLLC

WASHINGTON, June 3, 2024 – Steven P. Solow announced today the launch of Solow, PLLC, a law firm dedicated to helping organizations and individuals in the United States and worldwide navigate and identify solutions to complex legal and strategic challenges. Building on his more than 30 years of experience as a partner at leading U.S. law firms and as a federal and state prosecutor, Solow’s practice will encompass white collar defense, internal investigations, monitorships, crisis response, corporate compliance, and environmental civil and criminal litigation.

As needed, Solow will draw upon the extensive network he has developed in the course of his career, including forensic accountants, analysts, investigators, and technical experts, as well as former colleagues in firms large and small.
Solow’s clients have ranged from Fortune 10 corporations to small privately held businesses and individuals, as well as municipalities, NGOs, Boards of Directors, and attorneys. His clients have also reflected the broad range of industries in which he has meaningful experience, including chemical, energy, utility, construction, insurance, finance, homebuilding, pipeline, maritime, and technology. He also represents a range of pro bono clients.
In tandem with the opening of Solow, PLLC, Solow has also joined Affiliated Monitors, Inc. (AMI) as Managing Director of Global Compliance and Corporate Culture. AMI, founded in 2004, was the first company in the U.S. to focus on providing independent integrity monitoring services across a wide range of regulated industries and professions. The company serves national and international corporations, government contractors, non-profits, wholesale and retail establishments, small and medium-sized businesses, and individual licensed professionals.

Previously, Solow was a partner at Baker Botts, Katten, and Hunton Andrews Kurth. During his time in private practice he served as a national practice chair and as a law firm executive committee member. Chambers USA has awarded him a Band 1 ranking for Environment.
Solow entered private practice in 2002, prior to which he served as Chief of the Environmental Crimes Section at DOJ. There he oversaw the work of 30 federal prosecutors and the prosecution of environmental criminal cases nationwide, and was selected for the Senior Executive Service. Solow began his career as a prosecutor with the New York State Organized Crime Task Force, where he prosecuted racketeering, corruption, narcotics, and unlawful dumping cases. He joined the Task Force following a clerkship with the Honorable Harold L. Murphy of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia.
In addition to practicing law, teaching has been a central part of Solow’s career. Since 1997, he has been an adjunct professor at the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University, for which he founded and directs the Washington D.C. Environmental Externship program. He also served as a full-time professor and environmental law clinic co-director at both Pace and at the University of Maryland School of Law. He is currently a Senior Fellow of the Zicklin Center for Governance and Business Ethics at Wharton. Solow holds a J.D. from New York University School of Law and a B.A. from Brown University.
